                <jats:abstract><jats:p>The article offers an overview of the life of anthropologist Ivan Rakovsky who is an editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian General Encyclopedia (1930–1935), the first Ukrainian universal encyclopedic publication. The biographical information of the scientist is described through the vision of his formation as an encyclopediographer. The appearance and compiling the UGE, as well as Rakovsky’s activities in the Shevchenko Scientific Society are highlighted.</jats:p></jats:abstract>
