Among the numerous reference publications on art, a special category is catalogs of art exhibitions of fine and decorative and applied arts. Since their appearance (exhibition catalogs have been published since the 18th century, museum catalogs – since the 19th century, auction catalogs - since the 20th century), a powerful layer of documents has been printed, which are important source materials for studying and researching the history of art, the work of individual artists, creation of fundamental reference publications on art history. This article offers an overview of such reference works.
