By the example of articles from mentioned encyclopedia basic features of this type editions are shown: 1) system character (cyclicity) of basic knowledge and 2) its teaching, educational character. Special attention is given to the cycles of articles new to language encyclopedias, personnels, and also to the combination of text with the series of illustrations Стаття знайомить зі структурою та принципами укладання енциклопедії «Українська мова» – першого в світі спеціалізованого зводу відомостей про українську мову та українське мовознавство. На прикладі статей цієї енциклопедії окреслено визначальні ознаки видань такого типу: 1) системність (циклічність) уміщених в них базових знань та 2) їх навчальний, просвітницький характер.
